  • The Centaur BLD Blacksmith's Rounding Hammers are hand forged by Brandon L. Dearing from new 1045 mild carbon steel.
  • The face of each hammer is ground up to a 120-grit finish then buffed out for a semi polished, semi satin finish.
  • The eye is drifted from both ends to produce an hourglass double taper that gives a tight fit on to the handle.
  • Every hammer head is heat treated and tempered before being fit to the handle.
  • The handles are carved from 2" thick hickory, then carefully shaped and contoured for a comfortable fit as possible to your hand for swinging day in and day out.
  • The handle is shaped to allow for a comfortable grip for different hand sizes.
  • The head is hung with a mahogany wedge, which holds the hammer securely and makes for visual contrast between the hickory and steel.
  • The final step is applying several coats of linseed oil to the hammer and handle.
  • Brandon gives the heads a hot-oiled finish and you can see the deep bronze look on the hammer heads that is a natural result of the tempering process.
  • Every part of the hammer making process is done 100% by Brandon L Dearing. With care this hammer will last for years of use.
  • The round face of the hammer is used primarily for aggressive drawing down steel in all directions.
  • While the flat face is used to square the steel, bringing it to its final dimension and planish it.
  • You can draw out steel even more aggressively and selectively depending on the angle you hold the hammer at.
