I wonder about the science of this book and have some questions. I wonder about when Dr Miller says that it is ok to shoe a horse and take away some of the hoof function because the horse has so much hoof fucntion anyway. He actually states this! He compares this to a human being able to survive with only 1 kidney. And that this is somehow OK. It is not OK to have only 1 kidney. Ask people in the kidney ward at a hospital. Horses need the full function of their hoof. So Dr Miller seems to admit that shoeing a horse takes away hoof function. Also he claims that the barefoot trimming techniques require the horse to live in arid conditions - this is a gross misunderstanding of the message of barefoot trimmers. We suggest a variety of environments - hard/soft/wet/dry. Jamie Jackson in Paddock Paradise clearly shows how this can be accomplished successfully on a small plot of land. The logic of this book seems to be lacking. Also, he treats all barefoot trims as the same and does not seem to understand that there are different methods of barefoot trimming. Nor does he seem to understand the rationale behind the various methods.
